The Us Army Medical Materiel Agency (USAMMA) serves as the US Army`s Life Cycle Management Line (LCMC) for strategic medical acquisition, project management and logistics programs. USAMMA manages strategic programs around the world; equipment and support of the medical force in the components of the active army, military reserve and army national guard; and develops medical technologies/devices/materials for use on the battlefield and in fixed medical treatment facilities (FTMs). The agency also centrally manages pre-positioned military stockpiles and the Office of the Surgeon General`s emergency programs, as well as other relief assistance programs developed for all components of the military during entire spectrum operations. The Agency is setting up Medical Logistics Support Teams (MLST) and/or Forward Repair Activity Medical (FRA-M) to support joint operations in the various theatres. The agency also provides the army Medical Department National Maintenance Program expertise and maintenance of sustainment technical knowledge to ensure medical maintenance and training requirements, reliability and maintenance of the device, as well as maintenance and repair and maintenance services of medical equipment and technologies. The origin of USAMMA dates back to the beginning of World War II, when the General of the Army Surgeon recognized the need to develop the support of military medical equipment to the rapidly growing mobilization forces. The birth of USAMMA began in 1943, when the Office of the Surgeon General (OTSG) was renamed Purchase Division and transferred to the Army Medical Purchasing Office in Manhattan, New York. Later that year, the Department of Inventory Control, Distribution and Requirements, OTSG, was also transferred to the Army Medical Purchasing Office. The Medical Testing Laboratory was transferred from Binghamton, New York, in February 1943.
Later that year, the contract termination body was added. In 1944, the renegotiation and control divisions were transferred from the OTSG to New York. The United States Army Medical Materiel Agency (USAMMA), a junior unit of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRTM) in Fort Detrick, Maryland, serves as the U.S. Army`s Executive Officer for Strategic Medical Acquisition and Logistics Programs. On April 15, 1965, from Brooklyn to Valley Forge General Hospital in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, was renamed the United States Army Medical Materiel Agency (USAMMA) effective April 15, 1965. 8 (a) Small Business Chenega IT Enterprise Services has been awarded a 4-year, US$4 million contract for the required $4 million usamma IMIT Support Services contract. The contract was awarded as 8 (a) isolated source.
On May 27, 1953, the Army Medical Supply Control Office was established in Brooklyn, New York, and assigned to the Surgeon General. On April 30, 1965, the unit was renamed the Army Medical Supply Control Office and on January 1, 1957, the office was renamed Army Medical Supply Support Activity, a Class II off-duty activity of the General Surgeon. In 1974, USAMMA moved to Fort Detrick, Maryland, and was placed in 1994 under the new foundation of the United States Army Army Medical Research and Materiel Command.
